Configure Mikrotik router as wifi repeater
First reset the repeater router (RR) to factory settings.
You should now plug the RR to your PC and access it via Winbox software. Username is admin and password is empty.
Now you need to select the wlan interface to use and on wireless tab select “Setup repeater” action. In the window that opens enter the information of the wifi network which you want to extend. After pressing start mikrotik will create the virtual wifi interface and set everything up.
In the screenshot above you can see that the wlan3 was created. This is the extended network so you can change its SSID or leave it the same as the original network. This is basically all that's needed and it should work.
If you want to be able to utilize ethernet ports on the RR add these ports to the bridge interface.
You can also assign a static IP address as in above screenshot, to the bridge interface to be able to connect to RR more easily for managing it.
Instead of using a static IP another option is to configure a DHCP client on the bridge interface and it will get a random IP from the original router.
Tested on
- Mikrotik hap ax3 as main router
- hap ac lite as repeater
- Winbox version 7.19.1
